Toady we went to a rehearsal of the Crisis Carol Service in Southwark Cathedral. Christmas is a time when the desperation of homelessness is more acutely felt than any other. Every festive season, (in addition to their hard work all year round), Crisis runs the Crisis at Christmas project, helping to give the thousands of homeless people in Britain a warm, food-filled, happy Christmas. Needless to say, it’s a charity well worth giving to. The service was a great mixture of singing our guts out to the drones of the mega Southwark organ, and shedding the odd quiet tear at the testimonials of the people who Crisis have helped. It was especially good to be reminded that the only difference between us and them is the roofs we’re so very fortunate to have over out heads and that extending a caring hand can do us no ill.
